Constanze Kaiser grew up in the Ruhr region, the part of Germany where mining made this area the largest conurbation in Europe at the time. Therefore, her working method is always closely linked to participatory approaches and a down-to-earth cosmopolitanism. The young director repeatedly combines this with classical content and settings, such as opera or spoken theater, to create an accessible and engaging stage work. Engagements at various theaters and interdisciplinary pedagogical-enabling experience, prepared her for her own self-directed projects in Berlin’s and Hamburg’s independent performance scene. In this way, she is defying conservative structures and old power relations by forming creative teams that inspire through youthful recklessness AND convince through a belief in new ideas and aesthetics.
